Newark Lights Switch-On 2014

Newark Lights Switch-On 2014

If you are looking to get into the Christmas spirit, get yourself down to Newark Market Place on November 30th and join the 1st Security Solutions staff for what promises to be a day filled with fun and festivities. For the second year in a row, we’ve been invited to take part in the security and stewarding aspects of this fantastic event, and based on last year’s experience this was something we simply couldn’t say no to!

Starting in the morning from 11:00 am onwards, crowds can enjoy a whole host of entertainments, including live music, street entertainers and Newarks renowned fun fair, as well as traditional market food, crafts and charity stalls. Newark is also well known for its chilli market, with flavours and tastes that are not to be missed. Fit for the whole family, the event goes on throughout the afternoon and never disappoints, with fun activities for all ages.

The main spectacle, of course, is the switching-on of the lights, which this year feature the most extensive lighting displays and decorations yet. In fact, work has been ongoing since mid-October in order to install cross street lighting displays on the Castlegate End of Bear Lane as well as the Market Place itself and the end of Church Street.

In addition to these displays, the council has also installed a ceiling lights display that covers Catergate, Kirkgate and the Market Place, nearly doubling the lighting effect. To top it all off, the event will culminate in a firework display to wow both young and old alike, and allow people to get in the mood and really start thinking about the end of year celebrations.

Our staff anticipates an exciting day with engaging entertainment, great local bands performing live as well as choirs and carollers to bring out the festive spirit. Once the fireworks are over, the event continues with a church choral service before coming to a halt at around 5:30, and the preparations for Christmas can really begin in earnest.
