Security Vulnerabilities for Sheffield Boomakers

Staff at a Corral bookmakers received a nasty shock earlier this week when they found themselves the subject of a raid on their Sheffield establishment by three armed thieves. The intruders threatened staff before making off with a substantial amount of cash in what is the third such attack in Sheffield in just one week, although police believe that the incidents are not connected.

As well as Corral on Bradway Road, just five days earlier staff at Betfred Hartley Brook Road, Shiregreen, were held up by a lone burglar wearing a balaclava and carrying a gun. In addition to this, another betting shop on Midland Road, Royston, Barnsley, was also subjected to a hold up in the past week.

In the Corral burglary, the burglars were armed with guns and a hammer to intimidate staff and customers, in what is a frightening trend towards wider gun ownership. In the case of the Corral raid in Sheffield, burglars acted in broad daylight at 3:15pm, in the midst of a wide variety of customers and passers-by.

The police are urging anyone with any information on these incidents to come forward and call South Yorkshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
